All About Chunky Knit Blankets

I make chunky knit blankets and accessories! Here are the most common questions I get asked, answered.

Q: What sizes are available?

A: Honestly, almost any! I’ve made everything from baby blankets to king size! I take custom requests, so even if what you’re wanting isn’t a standard size, I can probably pull it off.

My most popular size is a “throw” size, which is 40 inches by 60 inches. I am 5’ 2” and it pretty well covers me!

  • Baby blanket size is approximately 30 x 40 inches

  • Throw size is approximately 40 x 60 inches

  • Full size is approximately 50 x 70 inches

  • Queen size is approximately 60 x 80 inches

  • King size is approximately 75 x 85 inches

When it comes to sizing, these blankets stretch and contract by an inch or two.

Q: What are the blankets made of?

A: 100% Polyester! While I would love to offer wool as an option, I discovered I am allergic to it pretty early on in this blanket making journey.

Q: How do I wash it?

A: I source my yarn from multiple different companies, so the answer to this is: it depends! Some yarns are more user-friendly than others. But, most often, the answer is going to be: hand wash only, in cold water, and air dry. If you select a yarn that is washer-friendly, it will need to be placed in a garment bag on a cold, gentle cycle, and then air dried. The more contrasting colors your blanket has, the more careful you’ll need to be in washing it. If you have a black or navy blue next to a white or ivory, it would be best to spot treat.

Q: How much do they cost?

A: It depends on how complicated the blanket is, the size, and if the yarn color you’re interested in has to be special ordered!

The base price of each size is as follows:

  • Baby blanket size is $40 minimum

  • Throw size is $60 minimum

  • Full size is $100 minimum

  • Queen size is $130 minimum

  • King size is $180 minimum

  • Add On - Blanket border $30 minimum

If you’re Oklahoma local and arrange for local pickup, these prices will be the exact price you pay for a blanket. If you are out of state or outside of the range for delivery, there will be a shipping charge added to these prices that will range from $15-40.

I do everything within my power to be a good steward of resources, time, and money, and when I encounter deals, I pass them on to customers in both yarn prices and shipping discounts. At the most expensive, my blankets run around $40 less than my counterparts on Etsy, and with more variety in color. :)

Q: How long does it take to make one?

A: In terms of production time, not very long. After a couple years of making these, baby blankets take me less than two hours, throw blankets take between one hour and forty-five minutes to two and a half hours, and full size takes around three and a half to four hours.

Q: If I custom order a blanket, how long will it be until I get it?

A: Unless you are wanting a yarn color that must be imported from another county (could be looking at six to eight week time for delivery) or ordered online (usually a lead time of a week to two weeks at the outset), it should take between a day to seven days for me to acquire yarn.

Orders are first come, first serve unless instructions to expedite are given (extra cost incurred). Once I have the yarn requested and I have the orders before yours fulfilled, it will take a day to complete the blanket and it will be shipped or delivered within the week.

Most orders are completed and shipped or delivered within a week and a half.
